Homesick

Don't think about it too much

It is amazing what can make a girl happy when she is feeling like an expat. I found a huge can of Heinz Baked Beans at Cost Plus today for $7.99.  Fab! (The 16ounce can of light coconut milk is just there for size comparison.)How many servings of baked beans can a family consume in one week before their home becomes unfit for habitation? Can you overdose on baked beans? Recipes for baked beans? Perhaps what I should be asking is “Can you freeze baked beans in portions?” Mmmmmm Beanz! A little bit of England in the Arizona desert. Just make sure you stay upwind of us for a bit.

Take it from someone who doesn’t do a whole lot of cooking (and therefore, attempts to cook in large batches and freeze for later consumption), beans freeze and reheat VERY well! Good luck and enjoy that little bit of home!

  2. Oh m goodness, I know EXACTLY how you feel. There’s nothing like a can of beans to take you back home, or a good cup of tea for that matter. Now if only NBC would screen Coronation Street…

  3. I love Heinz beans! We eat them all the time up here in Canada. Enjoy.

  4. Thanks for stopping by!

    Kathie,
You’ll be pleased to know a batch or two has been frozen!

    Virginia,
Oooo, that does sound great. A rainy evening, a baked potato with baked beans, and perhaps some rice pudding for desert, and then a little Coronation Street. Actually tonight, we’re watching a Life on Mars episode, the British version.

    Marilyn,
Canada looks better and better all the time!

  5. Mmmm “Beanz mean Heinz”. I know if I ever left the UK I would have to export a suitcase-full. I have to say though, I’ve never seen a can as big as that one 🙂

    • It is an impressive size Karen. Thanks for stopping by. You’ll be pleased to know that the can has a future decorative purpose in my house. I guess the wrapper can go into the compost heap right?
