Cluck, cluck, cliche

Earlier last week New Urban Habitat posted this and boy, did it have a familiar ring to it. In our home, there are half a dozen, okay, a dozen or so of my projects I’ve started littered around the house. Green, Green always sees things through. When he suggests a project he sees it through within a reasonable time period. Enter the idea of keeping chickens. Yeah, everyone and their grandmother is doing the urban chicken thing, doesn’t mean it is a bad idea.

About 18 months ago we had opportunity to housesit for a friend’s mum in the San Francisco area and look after their hens. It was wonderful. At the time we discussed keeping our own hens and then a neighbour, and then a friend also shared their chicken coop love. Green, a farm boy still at heart, was all over it. This weekend we finally took the plunge and now have five chicks a week old or under. Two Rhode Island Reds and three Buff Orpingtons. There are threats of more to come, but seeing as the coop isn’t ready yet, I’m begging for a stay on that matter.

Hooray, welcome to the wonderful world of chickens! I hope you love your “girls” as much as we do šŸ™‚

  2. Oh, I want chickens SO BAD! Sadly my husband is just not on board. I hope that you enjoy yours, and that you get many delicious eggs. šŸ™‚

Can’t wait for an update! I’d like chickens but our neighbors would kill us. They already turn us in to animal control every time our dogs bark.
